patrilineal: Members of a family whose members are related through the male line.

short tandem repeats (STRs): During DNA testing, an STR refers to the number of times that certain loci or genetic markers are repeated in a case.

single nucleotide polymorphism: A DNA sequence variation occurring when a single nucleotide differs between members of a species. It is valuable in a Y-Line Test.

surname: Any name added to a given name and part of a personal name, often a reference to the family name.
